Our Story

How we met (by Lindsay):

Adam and Lindsay met in March 2010 while Lindsay was visiting Mercy Hill Church one morning. Because of a mutual acquaintance at the church, the two struck up a conversation and ended up going to lunch together with several friends. Lindsay added Adam as a friend on Facebook that afternoon because she thought Adam would be a fun addition to her small group.  However, Adam had a more romantic interest in Lindsay after their first meeting. Lindsay did not perceive this interest whatsover and proceeded to continually invite him to non-romantic group gatherings and wondered why he only seemed interested in hanging out with her. See below.

Adam was persistent in his pursuit despite Lindsay’s ignorance and asked Lindsay on their first date sometime in April 2010. Their many shared interests and their passion for Christ fueled a great friendship that bloomed into romance in June 2010 when they became “Facebook Official”.

The Proposal (by Lindsay):

On November 23rd, 2011, Lindsay wholeheartedly believed she was going to a birthday party for Adam’s sister Erin at the Ironhorse Hotel. She bought her a gift, bought a new outfit and stressed out about why she and Adam were driving separate from Jordan and Erin when that really didn’t make logistical sense. When Adam picked her up at 5:15, she continued to be oblivious to what awaited her as she talked the entire 15 minute ride to the hotel about various topics while Adam nervously smiled and nodded. When they arrived at the Ironhorse Hotel, they were taken very, very quickly into a dimly lit private room. Upon entering the room, still oblivious to what was happening, Lindsay still wholeheartedly believed that she was going to a party for Erin and felt that the private room was nice, but a little overkill for a small birthday party. When she saw a table tucked in the corner of the room set with a dozen roses and several candles next to a beautiful roaring fire, she finally realized what was happening. She grabbed Adam’s hand in shock and he sat her down next to the fire. He stated the obvious, that there wasn’t a party for Erin, and he read her a poem he had written about his love for her. For the last line of the poem, he stood her up and dropped to his knee and presented her with a beautiful ring and said “Lindsay Martinkus, will you marry me?”. Lindsay said “Of course!” and they were engaged! After the proposal, Adam had arranged that his family and Lindsay’s family would be secretly waiting at their favorite restaurant, La Marenda. They shared an amazing celebration meal with their families and then the newly engaged couple headed to one of their favorite Shorewood establishments to continue their celebration. Adam filled Lindsay in on all of his preparations for the big night and the two gushed about their future, being in love and their dream wedding until late in the night.
